A proven water delivery control system

The ITET Digital Water System is saving municipalities thousands of dollars and making life easier for homebuilders and homeowners. Home Corp Services Inc. of Vaughan, Canada has introduced an exclusive, patented ITET Water System that eliminates troublesome municipal service boxes.

What are curb stops?

When houses are built and water delivery and plumbing systems are initially installed, a connection is made between the municipal water main and a water service pipe to the house.

A shut-off valve (commonly referred to as a “curb stop”) is installed along the water service pipe at a position between the water main and the house.

When lot servicing is complete, a wood stud or plastic pipe is used to support or identify the location of the curb stop to prevent damage or injury.

The curb stop typically has a valve body which is usually about six feet below the ground surface. In order to actuate the curb stop, an extension service box is then used to meet at the ground surface, enabling access to open or close the water valve above grade. The curb stop and the extension service box must be installed in the early stages of construction the home.

How does ITET Work?

ITET Installation is easy and once installed is completely out of sight

Home Corp Services has promoted our patented product as the “ITET Digital Water System”.

Through previous dialogue and presentations with Specialized Concrete and Drain Contractors, we learned that in addition to the expected nuisance calls arising as a result of the current water box system, experience significant vibration issues during the backfill and tamping portion of the construction process.

As a result, this vibration causes the current form of water box to slightly open leaving service contractors with leaking water boxes throughout their projects and thus having to incur significant overall costs for having to go back and perform manual shut-offs which would otherwise have not been required.

These issues provide yet another benefit as to why using the ITET Digital Water System is extremely beneficial as the system is locked in place via it“s electronic actuator, thus holding the valve in the open or closed position unless intentionally directed by the controller to cycle.

Municipality (using authorized contractor) can cycle on/off. ITET digital systems work remotely through the ITET Controller box accessed by authorized person. No heavy vehicles are needed to carry equipment. Saving money to municipalities and their residents.

Future

ITET is completely digital allowing access through internet connection direct from Municipal offices.

Curb Stop Facts

The impact ‘curb stops’ can have on builders, municipalities and homeowners. Get the facts:

  • In 2010, Statistics Canada forcasts 61,000 new constructions will begin in Ontario.
  • Most homeowers who purchase a new home in similar climate zones, take occupancy with exposed curb stops.
  • In 2001, the City of Kitchener serviced over 1,000 curb stops at an average cost of $100 per call
Barry Nash - Director of Operations
  • In 2004 Peel Region serviced 4,000 - 8,000 curb stops, at costs ranging from $10 to $300.
Rick Stroud - Manager of Operations & Maintenance of Public Works

Municipality Benefits

What does the ITET Digital Water System do for Municipalities?

  • Eliminates any risk of water leakage.
During the new home construction process, development property will experience an enormous amount of ground movement with heavy equipment, tampering, compacting and grading. Over time the vibration can cause pressurized valves to open (even by a small portion). The result of leaking water and the depressurized line creates extensive expenditure (in-ground water damage causes sink holes) to the builder, municipality and homeowner (via taxes).
  • Eliminates maintenance costs to the municipality.
ITET is out of sight and out of mind. There are NO curb stops protruding from the ground. ITET replaces curb stops with a digitally controlled water box buried below the frost level at the same location as the water box.
  • Prevents any unauthorized personnel tampering with city equipment/assets.
Secured below the surface it allows only authorized personnel access to cycle your asset on or off. The region has the option of delegating responsibility. Eliminate the risk of injury with exposed curb stops at ground level to homebuilders, contractors, homeowners and their families. Most newly built homes are occupied before grading and landscaping with exposed (and most often broken) fixtures, that create high risk for injury which can lead to costly litigation.
  • Reduce costly and time-consuming flush-outs.
Municipalities gain access through a controlled management system. ITET Digital Water Systems work remotely through a digital controller accessed by authorized personnel. No heavy vehicles are needed to carry equipment, saving money and allowing municipalities to allocate money saved to other resources.

What does the ITET Digital Water System do for Homeowners?

  • Eliminates any risk of water leakage.
During the new home construction process, development property will experience an enormous amount of ground movement with heavy equipment, tampering, compacting and grading. Over time the vibration can cause pressurized valves to open (even by a small portion). The result of leaking water and the depressurized line creates extensive expenditure (in-ground water damage causes sink holes) by the builder, municipality and homeowner (via taxes).
  • Eliminate the challenges of keeping curb stops in the ground due to frost upheaval.
Every year many water boxes shift and move during the winter months due to winter frost. Quite often curb stops are installed in driveways and pathways that become a nuisance as the frost pushes them through driveways, grass, even brick and concrete which again creates a costly repair.
  • Eliminate the risk of injury with exposed curb stops at ground level to homebuilders, contractors, homeowners and their families.
Most newly built homes are occupied before grading and landscaping with exposed (and most often broken) fixtures that create high risk for injury can lead to costly litigation.
Escape the prone of lawnmower and other landscaping tools damaged by exposed curb stops by eliminating the water box from the property all together. Removing curb stops in driveways and sidewalks eliminates the potential damage to snow-blowers and other snow removal tools.
  • Eliminate unsightly street fixtures.
Fact: most newly built subdivisions are riddled with unsightly street fixtures such as: fire hydrants, hydro boxes, cable & telephone boxes - removing the water box enhances the subdivision and is a pleasing experience to the homeowner - “out of sight, out of mind”.

  • Eliminates any ‘out-of-pocket’ expenses for repairs to damaged service boxes.
Approximately 1 out of every 3 homes will need their curb stop repaired due to damage during new home construction. With numerous trades buzzing around on a daily basis, bent valve stems are inevitable.

  • Avoid delays in homeowners closing date.
Homeowners delay move in date due to construction damages - a costly delay, legal fees, financing and security deposits are all at risk. Avoid nuisance calls regarding broken water boxes and repairs.
